The Reboot

I hate the date thirteen and that too in April. There is a reason people call it unlucky and the month being a month of fools. For me it was a personal dilemma.

“I am such a fool”

“Dude...If you are man enough then go talk to her”

It still rings a bell.

*********************************************************************

“A year and four months; how are you?”

People generally say “Hi”or ”Hey” or even ”Hello” and all I said was this...seriously, I had no opening line other than that.

“I am fine...what about you?”

Her reply; great...now the ball is in my court. What should I say now? Obviously, repeat her line.

“I am fine too”

It is like echoing others line but still works most of the time. But I did not stop for I had to blabber anything right. So I muttered this:

“So what are you doing after internship?”

Seriously? One could easily tell by this that I was stalking her profile secretly even after what happened in previous year. Oh wait...she did too. The half smile coming out of the corner of her lips was evident enough.

Too much detail? Nope...I still know her minute details.

Yeah...I know, awkward.

“Final year” She did reply though.

Crisp, short replies. That is both kind of scary and also mysterious. God knows what cooks inside of their heads.

“Cool...placement season then” I gave a thumbs up which perhaps she did not like.

“Next semester”

Okay this was going nowhere so I said the most stupid line one has ever said. Yes more stupid than the above ones!

“It is not awkward for you right? Talking to me and all”

“No” She replied. Why does it have to be short...damn. But still she didn’t feel awkward; that’s a good thing right?

“Hmm...” another safe option when you have nothing to contribute to or you are too weak to say things. Yeah...the second one obviously!

She then unfolds herself...in words

“I wouldn’t have spoken to you then either”

There was a brief silence. I shouldn’t have said that.

“So where are you now?”

“Oh...yes...I am in Tech Mahindra now” I continued “In Bhubaneswar...oh no no...not that I was there from the beginning; I was in Hyderabad before, then came here...so yes..Now ...umm...Bhubaneswar”

She laughs...ohh...Sweet.

Smiling she says “I am really happy for you”

We shared a smile for some time. Some more time spent.

I can’t share everything you know! He he...good times; personal ones.

Me:“So you are okay, okay?”

“Ha ha...good good, fine fine”

Me:“You read my blog I hope?”

“I am sorry, I am not aware of it”

Me:”Oh...fine, no problem...I will mail you..Same email id?”

“Yes...or maybe you can text me...I have the same number.”

Me: “Oh...okay” (smiling)

“You still have my number?”

Me: “Yes”

She smiled briefly and left towards home. I too walked towards my place when I received a text.

“I still have yours”

I looked back. She was looking at me.

Then what? Don’t watch too much movies. Here normally the hero runs for the girl and then kisses her passionately. Oh, there is a romantic track in the background too.

No-one kisses in their first meeting...or rather a re-meeting.

Well; the rundown and the kisses were there later but the track definitely wasn’t.

Rest is history (wink).

*********************************************************************

I love food and I love my friends. When both of them are together then it feels like heaven.

“I was such a fool then”

“You still are now”

The swarma was spicy enough but the words were even more than that.

“What?”

“Isn’t it obvious?”

And everyone started laughing. Some even said “cry baby”. I could not stop myself for a smile too.

I feel good, I feel rejuvenated...again.

Well everything seems so perfect right?

It was the same, two years and seven months ago too!

But still...I am happy now.

This is for you ☺

The Hound of a Snide [Part 2]

Thunderous claps…claps that one could hear from across the hall.

“Damn it…I am so late”

His cellphone rang showing a message: “Dude where you are?”

"Man...no time at all!"

“Sir, Identity please” the robust security guard stopped him midway.

Six foot…nope, definitely more than that. He looked up to the security guard.

Oh common now, I am in the list”

“Identity Please”, the guard asserted.

“Uhh…now where did I keep my Id?”

Guard: “Sir, if you have no id then I am afraid I can’t allow you to pass!”

“Yeah yeah…just a moment”

Searching deep in his pockets, he fumbled to get out his id card resulting in spilling some more stuffs from his pocket.

“There there…oh wait…no no…this one…yes…this one…this is my ID card”

“Hmmm” the guard took a closer look at the id and then a sharp look at him and said: “You can pass now”

“Great”

Guard: “You do have an uncanny resemblance”

Amazed at this statement he said “It took you this much time to get it? You could have let me in sooner!”

Guard: “We got to do our jobs”

“Yeah…ok….anyway I am late now”

He ran for the entrance; maybe even to barge in the door if that requires, “I cannot miss this”

“….and so it is my great honour to welcome our esteemed guest…”

“Sweet…just in time” he felt accomplished to reach just in time..."phew"

Claps, thunderous claps spread across the hall, echoing the hallway.

**************************************************************************

“Nice Shot” Mr. Verma was amused and impressed at the same time.

“Thanks” he said.

Mr. Verma: “Boy, you have got some eyes…five out of five huh”

Him (smiling): “I have had a good teacher”

At this they both share a good laugh.

“Ray!”

Tripti was now ready for him.

Tripti: “Umm..are you planning to stand here all day?”

Ray: “Oh…I was thinking of spending time with dad”

Tripti: ”That’s my dad…not yours!”

Ray: “not yet”

Mr. Verma(laughing): “You two…oh…I am so proud of you”

Tripti: “Aww…common now,hugs please”

Ray came closer whispering to her “Did you tell him?”

Tripti: “Shh…not now!”

The walls seemed creeping in as tears rolled down her cheeks when she looked at the old picture of the three together. Memories! The one she cherished has become a nightmare for her now.

“You didn’t have to kill the dog” the client sounded unhappy.

“What’s with the dog? I hate them” he asserted his choice of actions.

Taken a bit aback, the client controlled his aggression and says: “So is it done? Did you get it?”

Smiling he replies “We are close….very close”

The Hound of a Snide [Part 1]

“Kill me... what are you waiting for?”

She closed her eyes waiting for the inevitable to happen.

What was her fault? She had done no harm to anyone. She had a normal life, happy and like an angel to many. Maybe fate had something else in mind. The plan of the universe!

Glasses crackled, room rattled and there was a sudden pressure and then dead silence with everything moving in slow motion.

**************************************************************************

Anand: “How about Thursday?”

Nishita: “Why does it have to be Thursday?”

Anand: “What’s wrong with Thursday?”

Nishita: “Mom tells me that we should not go out on Thursdays.”

Anand: “Oh common; it’s your mom now? In coming year we would be together and...”

Nishita: “And...So? She would still be my mom right?”

Anand: “Okay okay...Saturday then”

Nishita: “Na...Saturday too is a problem”

Anand: “Now what is wrong here? it’s the biggest day of the weekend”

Nishita: “Actually that’s ‘veg’ day!”

Anand: “Seriously?”

Nishita: “Yup”

Anand: “Do you even want to go?”

Nishita: “Yup”

Anand: “This is getting annoying...When?”

Nishita: “How about now?”

Anand: “Now? umm... I mean nn...nn...now?”

Nishita: “Yeah now...look up...it’s beautiful”

Anand: “It is late you know....won’t your mom be...”

Nishita: “Oh shut yup...my mom now?”

Anand bows his head down smiling and says

“Yes madam”
**************************************************************************

The Disco lights had engulfed the whole floor. The night was young, and why not? The party must go on!

Scavenging the whole floor he sat down looking at his watch and then signalling the bartender.

“One Scotch; Large!”

“Nice choice...I would have a beer though” dressed in stark black outfit, the client seemed relaxed yet in some hurry. He continued...

“You know what to do right?”

The man replies: “Until you hold on to your part of the deal”

Client (smiling) “It’s a deal then...so when are you planning to begin?”

“It has started already”

**************************************************************************

Tears dropped down her cheeks one last time. She could hardly speak but yet mustered out

“Why?”

The shadow...it looked at her for a brief time till she finally closed her eyes.

Pitch black night; the only sound heard are the howling of the wolves and the disturbing sound of the laughter was echoing the room.
