Another Happy Birthday Story

 “My nose hurts”

She laughs from the other end.

“What are you laughing at huh?”

Smiling she says “Told you before to not start a fight with my brother”

“Yeah, I am feeling that already...Ow!”

                “Aww...Baby did that hurt much?”

“You say much? He punched me right on my face!”

She continues to laugh.

“...and that is not even funny”

                “Okay...sorry”

“By the way, what are you doing tomorrow?”

“Its 9 pm now...all I can think is of sleep now”

“Oh common...we can have lunch or dinner together at least...the more the time, the better that is”

“Oh don’t you grin on this”

“I am certainly not”

Manav...I know you are doing that right now”

He smiles. He likes it when she catches him doing that.

“Anyway I can’t go tomorrow...my brothers are here”

“Brothers? Gosh...how many do you have?”

Laughing she replies “Honey, I have many brothers”

“But still, how many?”

“All you should know that three of them are here at home to meet me”

“Damn...”

                “Scared much huh? hehehe”

“Hmm...They should be”

She laughs. He loves her smile.

“Talk to you later okay...my brothers are calling...bye”

And just like that she cut the call before he could say anything. Funny, because if we guys do the same kind of act; then it would result in a lot of drama. You wouldn’t even know what and where you did wrong. The girl gets unnecessarily mad and the only thing that would cheer her up is your head on a spike.

Dropping the call she heads to downstairs to meet her brothers.

“Damn...he hit him really hard” smiling, as she murmurs to self while heading down the stairs.

“Hey” and greetings started to pour in as she meets them finally after a year.

This is her one time of the year were she spends some good time with her dear brothers together. She is happy.

Quirky yet Alluring

Lord’s cafe.

I have had heard and read stories about it and now I am sitting there out in the open, sipping cane juice with nice fresh air flowing around it.

It does feel nice to have the air hit you nicely. That nice cool breeze of air which shouldn’t have been there in the first place but there it is. In fact if you look at it to have some real sense then you will realize that the cold/cool air flows due to change in pressure. It will always come in from the high pressure zone to a low pressure zone. So you can say that I am sitting in a low pressure area. Maybe I am feeling very low personally too and maybe that is life mocking e with a humble cool breeze.

It gets really troublesome and emotional when I get time alone, having no work but to ponder pointlessly over unusual circumstances- what would have happened if we could have made different choices.

The choices we make have definite consequences but well we do have to live with it. There are some moments when you just don’t understand of what you are doing or what is the exact significance of you! What am I? Why should people know me?

But then these are all my ridiculous black holes which appear in without invitation. Yes it sucks...Big time!

There goes thy Valentine

Oh Love...where have you been?

Swipe, swipe...oh yes...no...Not her...next...swipe.

Yep! Tinder

It says it is how people meet, like real life, but better. I don’t know how it does better...the reason; obviously...I don’t have a match yet.

Dating apps; I am new to them and so I have started having two of them from market-the android market per se.

I idea is quite logical and funny. You enter your profile like normal matchmaking/wedding sites (I have tried that) and then you get to see a lot of girls...he he. A lot!

Now thing is I am swiping at looking at profiles for quite some time. Swipe left...ohh...now she looks interesting...swipe right. Rule is that the one you swipe right to, should also swipe you correctly. Then only you get to initiate a talk and possibly a date.

It is quite an easy one right? You don’t have to hit the streets or wait for the one to arrive. Rather you have everything online. Just need the right clicks and ta da...

Yes I thought that too...and after fifty three right swipes, no one seems to swipe me the same way. It’s like those one-sided love stories where you just drool over a girl, love her unconditionally but the girl never likes you. In fact she just swipes you to the left!

Common guys...you must have had Tinder right?

“What is wrong with you?”

My friend says that to me. He seems to observe some change in me for quite some time which is kind of unsettling him. Funny...cause when I ask him the same question he just replies “Life happened”

You have got to kidding me! Isn’t this February?

My mom says I need to focus. Well how do I explain mom that I am focusing. Just that the direction is somewhere else right now. Wink.

I am a Bengali and I mentioned February. Yes I know February...that treacherous midday of the month which arrives every damn year, consistently reminding me of my relationship status. And then there comes the eventful Saraswati Puja which again serves that awful package-Valentine’s day. Twice...twice in a single month

“Hey shall we go for practice tomorrow morning?”

“No man...that is propose day. I have to make preparations for my girlfriend”

All I have is to give that dumb face of mine. I go to my room and plug in my earphones still thinking about the dumbest thing I ever heard. It is not only me right? I mean like common!

***

“Dude, you need to calm down”

That is my friend I talked about previously; only that this conversation happened before that.

Me: “I am calm”

“Why don’t you date girls...complete random girls?”

Me: “Seriously...you are giving me dating tips?”

“Yes I am”

Me: “I am not quite interested in right now”

“hmm...so what will you do from now huh?”

Me: “There are other things apart from love. Career, you forgot about career, money?”

“Ha ha ha”

Me: “Now what is there to laugh on?”

“It is quite hilarious of what you are saying”

Me: “Completely logical. Love is a complete waste of time”

“You know she won’t come back right?”

After a brief pause...

Me: “Why do you have to say that?”

“Just saying...good for you now...besides it’s about time”

Me: “Time for what?”

“About what you should have done in college!”

Me: “Why don’t you die?”

“ha ha...come over to my place. We will party the whole night and drinks is on me”

Me: “I don’t drink”

“You lying bastard. Get your ass over to my place”

Have you ever looked at my face? Do I ever look like I could ever touch alcohol?

Yes...the answer is no, I don’t...drink. Wink.

***

“Bro, this girl looks good”

“She is only 5 feet 4. Nope”

“What about this girl?”

                “Nah...Her eyes seem off”

“Seriously? Her eyes seem off? You will die alone”

                “Database refreshes minute”

“Alright...then the hunt is on!”

Just in case I am in a risk of losing a date I would mention that it is just the story. Yeah...you should completely believe that with certain conviction.

The Wedlock

My three words have a meaning, which is true, from each and every part of my heart...

...and it’s all for you.

***

He: “Just a peek”

She: “No”

He: “Oh common”

She (laughing): “No no...No way”

He: “The wait...it’s hard for me you know”

She (laughing): “Sleep alone now”

He: “huh”

She: “I feel nervous”

He: “What does that mean?”

She: “Nothing...just this is so amazing but I feel so shaky”

He: “Panicking huh...we can do it later, when you are comfortable then”

She: “I will kill you!”

He (laughing): “You said it first”

She (ecstatic): “Tomorrow...finally, yes”

He (laughing): “This time get ready on time”

She (smiling): “I will make you suffer your whole life”

He: “Yes please”

The three words, the silent vows

Beautiful isn’t it? You are too.

The force is strong here...he he he.

***

“Coffee?”

He took out a piece of paper from his notebook and scribbled it in.

“Name is important. How would she know it is from me then?”

“Dude...you can just go talk to her. She is sitting right there”

“You mad or what. Just look at her. What if she doesn’t like me and slaps me instead?”

“Or she could still slap you after seeing this note”

“Then I would have time to run at least...now pass it along”

The note went from him to Ramesh, Suresh, Nilesh, Mukesh and many people. Some read it and gave thumbs up to him while some laughed hard thinking he is gone now.

Eventually the lecture ended but the note was still passed along. Maybe it reached her or maybe not. Everyone stood up and started to disperse as soon as possible while there he was wandering among the masses to see if the note finally reached to him or not.

To his dismay she was nowhere to be seen in the classroom and he couldn’t find the note itself.

“Hey you passed the note to her right?”

                “Yeah dude”

“And she read it?”

                “I don’t know...the lecture ended and I went out in a hurry”

“Oho”

Restless, his heart was beating fast. There are times where we are so anxious to know of the outcome that we lose sight of what is around us.

“Ahem”

Yes...it was her. Didn’t we see enough movies already?

She: “You know passing a note was a pretty lame idea”

He (embarrassed): “I don’t know”

She: “Hmmm”

I hate this “hmmm”

He: “I am really sorry...I apologise for this”

His head filled his shame; he put his head low and started walking away from her.

She (laughing): “I never said no you know”

***

“Can I have your daughter for the rest of my life?”

“Say yes, say yes please” was all he was thinking while her father gave him the stern look.

Maybe he was struck by the audacity of him asking for her hand.

He looks behind towards her daughter. She looks at her father and nods in unison for his approval.

He could see her eyes being lit up. The innocence of her face, reminded him of her mother and he just couldn’t say anything else.

***

“Take care of my daughter”

Her father rests his hands on his shoulders. He could feel his warmth and compassion.

Smiling he says “I promise” and they both have the nod of understanding.

She: “Now what was my dad telling you?”

He (smirking): “That I have the full permission to torture you”

She: “Oh we will see who gets tortured”

He: “Hey look out...wait hold my hand”
